Sarah Shahi was born Aahoo Jahansouzshahi in Euless, Texas, to an Iranian father and a Spanish-Iranian mother. The former NFL cheerleader Sarah Shahi is an ancestor of an Persian Shah in during the late 19th century. She was a student at Trinity High School and Southern Methodist University where she studied opera and majored in English. The beauty pageants she won when she was a teenager, and was awarded Miss Fort Worth USA 1997. Her team for 1999-2000 had her as a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader.
